Price check · Selling

“What does this cost?”, answered by the customer's own phone.

A page anybody can open to scan a barcode and see the name, what is on hand and the price — and which is structurally incapable of showing them anything else.

What you get

No app, no sign-in, no hardware. A customer opens a page on your website and points their camera at a barcode.

It answers three things: the name, how many are on hand, and the price.

It cannot answer a fourth. The database function behind it returns those three columns and no others, so a careless change upstream still cannot leak a cost or a vendor.

It answers for your store, resolved from your own address — the browser sends a barcode and nothing else.

Staff use the same page on their own phones, which is usually how shelf queries get answered anyway.

How it runs

An unlabelled shelf, start to finish.

  1. 1

A customer finds an item with no label on the shelf.

  2. 2

They open the price-check page on your site and scan the barcode.

  3. 3

The name, the price and what is in stock come back.

  4. 4

Nobody had to find a member of staff, and no member of staff had to leave the counter.

The questions people ask

Could it show what we paid for an item?
It could not, and that is a property of the database rather than a promise about the code: the function it calls returns a name, a count and a price, and has no column to put a cost in.

Start with Price check switched on.

Every module is part of the same trial — turn on what you need, leave the rest off, and your data exports on any day of it.
